White spotted gecko care

White spotted geckos  come  from  dry,  rocky  regions  of  the  Mediterranean  and  north  Africa.  They  are  very  territorial  and  it  is  best  to  house  them  individually.

A  10  gallon  terrarium  is  ok  for  one  gecko  but,  a  20  works  better.  They  do  well  in  taller  terrariums  because  they  are  mainly  arboreal.

Be  sure  to  use  a  screen  lid  with  the  terrarium.

White  spotted  geckos  require  a  temperature  gradient  from  the  to  the  top  to  the  bottom  of  the  terrarium  to  regulate  their  body  temperature.  Temperatures  should  also  vary  from  day time  to  night time  hours.

Use  two  thermometers  and  a  hydrometer  to  monitor  temperature  levels  and  humidity  levels.

The  basking  spot  should  be  the  warmest  spot  in  the  habitat  during  the  day.
Heat  should  be  provided  by  a  high  wattage  bulb  placed  directly  above  the  basking  spot.  The  light should  be  turned  off  at  night.

White  spotted  geckos  are  nocturnal,  meaning  they  are  most  active  at  night  but  will  come  out  during  the  day  and  bask.  Since they  are  nocturnal  they  do  not  need  uvb  bulbs.  As  long  as  the  terrarium  is  above  75  degrees  they  are  fine  at  room  temperature.

Use  a  2  to  3  inch  layer  of  bark  bedding  or  coconut  fiber  bought  at  local  pet stores.  Clean  out  waste  weekly,  and  clean  the  whole  cage  once  a  month.

Include  decor  to  elevate  the  gecko  closer  to  the  heat  source  for  basking.

Use  branches  for  hiding  and  climbing.

White  spotted  geckos  are  insectivores  meaning  their  diet  consist  of  primarily  of  insects.

White  spotted  geckos  will  benifit  from  a  varied  diet.

white  spotted  geckos  are  best  fed  at  night.

Water  bowls  should  be  emptied  daily.

Insects  Crickets,  Mealworms,  and  occasional  Waxworms.

Food  should  be  offered  every  other  day.

White  spotted  geckos  can  be  misted  every  other  day  with  a  spray  bottle  that  has  not  been  used  for  any  thing  else  before.

Life  Span  8  to  10  years  with  proper  care.

Size  6  to  9  inches

My First Reptile

My  first  reptile  was  actually  a  frog,  a  green  tree  frog.  He  was  very  friendly  i  could  hold  him  if      i  wanted too and  the  cool  thing  about  him  was  he  consumed  one  cricket  every  other  day.  So  he  was  also  very  cost  efficient  so  another  plus.  A  downside  was  the  sleeping  all  day  so  i  did  not  hold  him  very  often  because  he  was  nocturnal.

But  one  day  i  was  cleaning  his  cage  outside  and  he  escaped.  Rip  Forest
