White spotted geckos come from dry, rocky regions of the Mediterranean and north Africa. They are very territorial and it is best to house them individually.
A 10 gallon terrarium is ok for one gecko but, a 20 works better. They do well in taller terrariums because they are mainly arboreal.
Be sure to use a screen lid with the terrarium.
White spotted geckos require a temperature gradient from the to the top to the bottom of the terrarium to regulate their body temperature. Temperatures should also vary from day time to night time hours.
Use two thermometers and a hydrometer to monitor temperature levels and humidity levels.
The basking spot should be the warmest spot in the habitat during the day.
Heat should be provided by a high wattage bulb placed directly above the basking spot. The light should be turned off at night.
White spotted geckos are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night but will come out during the day and bask. Since they are nocturnal they do not need uvb bulbs. As long as the terrarium is above 75 degrees they are fine at room temperature.
Use a 2 to 3 inch layer of bark bedding or coconut fiber bought at local pet stores. Clean out waste weekly, and clean the whole cage once a month.
Include decor to elevate the gecko closer to the heat source for basking.
