Curly tailed lizards originate from peru , the caribbean and cuba. they can be territorial and are best housed alone, although females can be housed together if given enough space. a 20 gallon terrarium is recomended but you can get by with a 10 gallon terrarium for 1 curly tailed but for 2 females a 20 gallon is the minimum cage size. remember to use a screen top with the terrarium. curly tails need a temperature gradient on the warm side and cool side of the terrarium. to regulate their body temperature. temperature within the habitat should vary between daytime and night time hours. the habitat will need two thermometers one on the warm side and one on the cool side.
They will need a hydrometer in the middle of the cage to monitor humidity levels. you should also give them a basking spot wich is the hot spot of the terrarium. the warm side should be 85 to 95 on the warm side, and 75 to 80 degrees on the cool side. curly tails are diurnal wich means they are awake during the day and asleep at night. they also need a uvb bulb sold at pet stores so they don't get metabolic bone disease a condition common in reptiles. for substrate use a 2 to 3 inches of reptile bark or coco fiber often sold at pet stores. i recommend cleaning out the cage every month depending on how dirty the cage is to every 3 weeks. include decor to elevate your lizard closer to the basking spot to warm up better. the lamps need to on for atleast 10 hours a day.
Curly tailed lizards are mainly insectivores, meaning their diet consist primarily of insects, however they will enjoy occasional vegetables and fruit.
Insects crickets mealworms waxworms can be bought at your local pet store but crickets should be a daily staple becuse they have a soft outer shell. unlike mealworms wich have a hard to digest outer shell. and unlike waxworms wich make your lizard fat. so mealworms and waxworms on occasion.
Vegetables khale, chopped carrots, cabbage, are a good choice.
Fruits banana, apple, pear, strawberry's, are all good choices.
Water curly tails may drink from a shallow water bowls, and water bowls should be refilled and emptied daily.
Life Span 5 to 10 years is expected with good care.
Size 6 to 8 inches
