Green Anole Care

Anoles  live  in  the  southeast  united  states  and  caribbean  islands  and  require  a  warm  and  humid  habitat. Also  anoles  of  the  same  sex  may  be  housed  together  if  they  don't  fight.

A 10 gallon  terrarium  is  minimum  for  2  anoles,  a  bigger  terrarium  will  be  needed  for  more.  id  say  add  5  gallons  atleast  per  anole.  taller  enclosures  are  recommended  these  lizards  like  to  climb,  be  sure  to  use  a  screen  lid  with  the  habitat.

Temperature  gradients  are  required  from  top  to  bottom  of  the  habitat  to  regulate  body  temperature.  Temperature  should  vary  from  day  time  to  night  time  hours.

The  habitat  should  be  have  two  thermometers  one  high  and  one  low  and  one  hydrometer  to  monitor  the  temperature  and  humidity  levels.

The  basking  spot  should  be  the  warmest  spot  in  the  habitat  during  the  day.  heat  is  provided  by  a high  wattage  heat  bulb  placed  directly  above  the  basking  spot.  during  night  time  hours  the  light  should  be  turned  off.

Anole  are  diurnal,  meaning  they  are  most  active  during  the  day.  They  need  uvb  and  uva  light  flourescent  bulb  for  12  houres  a  day  these  bulbs  can  be  bought  at  local  petstores.

For  the  substrate  use  2  to  3  inches  of  coconut  fiber  or  bark  bedding  bought  at  local  petstores.  Clean  the  lizards  wast  weekly  and  clean  out  the  cage  monthly.

Include  decor  to  elevate  your  anole  closer  to  the  heat  lamp  for  basking.

Add  rock  or  wood  hiding  places  in  the  cool  area  of  the  home  for  the  lizard  to  hide.

Provide  branches  for  the  lizard  to  climb  on  the  anoles  love  habitat  plants  live  or  fake  just  make  sure  they  aren't  toxic,  good  choices  are  ficus,  pothos, and  some  philodendron.

Anoles  are  insectivores,  meaning  they  eat  most  of  the  time  live  insects.  Crickets  are  the  primary  source  for  food,  but  anoles  need  a  variety  of  insects  in  their  diet,  so  it  is  important  to  feed  different  insects  from  time  to  time.

Anoles  need  calcium  supplementation  and  will  benefit  from  a  reptile  multivitamin.
Be  sure  to  clean  water  bowls  and  food  bowls  daily.

Insects  Crickets,  mealworms,  and  on  occasion  waxworms.

Water  mist  the  insides  of  the  enclosure  with  a  spray  bottle  that  has  not  been  used  before  and  anole  will  lick  droplets  from  the  sides  and  plants  in  the  terrarium.

Life  span  5  to  7  years  with  proper  care.
