Pixie Frogs come from a moist and humid environment. They are cannibalistic and will eat each other. These frogs need to be housed individually.
A glass terrarium works best, at least a 10 gallon terrarium is the minimum. Use a screen lid with this habitat.
Temperatures in the habitat should vary between daytime and night time hours.
Use 2 thermometers and a hydrometer to monitor humidity levels in the habitat.
Temperatures in the habitat should be 75 to 80 degrees in the daytime and can drop to 68 to 72 degrees at night. These temperatures can be reached with a under tank heater bought at local pet stores. But human heat pads will work fine on the low setting. You can also keep these frogs at room temperature as long as your house stays above 70 degrees.
Also these frogs are nocturnal so they do not need a heat lamp. But one low wattage bulb can be provided to keep them warm.
Use a 2 to 3 inch layer of coconut fiber or bark bedding sold at local pet stores. But these frogs like to burrow so the deeper the bedding the better.
Waste should be cleaned out weekly and the whole terrarium should be cleaned once a month.
These frogs need a shallow water dish to soak themselves if needed.
Provide branches for climbing and hiding. Live plants also help with humidity levels. A good selection are pothos, ficus, and some philodendron.
Pixie frogs are insectivores, meaning their diet consist of mainly insects.
These frogs require calcium supplementation and will benefit from a reptile multivitamin as a part of their diet.
It is best to feed them at night because they are nocturnal.
Insects Crickets, mealworms, and occasional waxworms. But Crickets work best. These frogs can eat every other day and insects should be dusted in calcium twice a week
Add water dechlorinator to provide water for this frog in the frogs water dish.
Water bowls should be emptied and refilled daily.
Life Span 10 to 20 years with proper care.
Size 10 to 12 inches
